Quick-fire intro to Xining
Xining is the capital of the Qinghai province. It is located in the west of China and thus has a very unique style and vibe over many other eastern Chinese cities. It can connect to all the big Western Chinese cities such as Lanzhou, Urumqi and Tibet and, in fact, it is the largest city that sits on the Tibetan Plateau. With many influences from all of these diverse cultures combining in one city. Due to all of these different Chinese cultures combining here you can visit the Northern Buddhist Temple, the Tibetan gem of the Ta’er Monastery and take a bus to the Dongguan Mosque and still have enough places to see to fill a full year with activities.
It is the summer resort capital due in part to the stunning Qinghai Lake which has a small island within it called “The Bird Island” because, surprisingly, it is home to a vast array of birds. It would take too long to name all the mountains, temples, lakes and river that are worth seeing, but you can trust in the fact that your Instagram friends are certainly going to be jealous.
